Admission Requirements

Certificate and Diploma Programs

expects students applying for admission to certificate or diploma programs to present at minimum:

  • An Ontario Secondary Diploma (OSSD) or,
  • The equivalent to an OSSD (if you studied in another province or country) as determined by or mature student status
  • Credits, courses and minimum grades to satisfy the academic pre-requisites of specific programs
  • Non-academic requirements as specified (e.g. portfolio, admission essay etc.)
  • English and Mathematic academic pre-requisites may be met by writing a “skills assessment” for most programs
  • Possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to a program.

Modified Apprenticeship Programs

expects students applying to Modified Apprenticeship Programs to present at minimum:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or GED or equivalent
  • Credits, courses and minimum grades to satisfy the academic prerequisites of specific programs
  • Non-academic requirements as specified
  • Possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to a program.

Degree Programs

expects students applying to degree programs to present at minimum:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with a minimum of six 12 U, 12M, OAC credits or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. (Please note that mature applicants to the Nursing (BScN) program must be 21 years of age by December 31 of the year in which they wish to commence their studies. As well they must have been away from full-time formal education for at least two years.)
  • Credits, courses and minimum grades to satisfy the academic prerequisites of specific programs.
  • Non-academic requirements as specified (e.g. portfolio, admission essay, program admission sessions etc.).
  • Possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to a program.

Mature Students/Non-Matriculants

Applicants who do not hold Centennial’s published admission requirements may be considered for admission if they are 19 years of age on or before the start of a program.

Mature applicants to the Nursing (BScN) program must be 21 years of age by December 31 of the year in which they wish to commence their studies. As well they must have been away from formal full-time education for at least two years.

Mature applicants will be considered for admission to Certificate and Diploma programs on the following basis:

  • In the absence of the minimum English and/or mathematics academic prerequisites outlined in the Certificate and Diploma program chart on page 2 of the full-time calendar or back of the view book, you may where indicated, present the successful completion of a skills assessment for admission to some programs.
  • Proof of age
  • Fulfill non-academic requirements

Professionally Trained - Fast-Track/Graduate Certificate Programs

Applicants to fast-track/graduate certificate programs must submit an official transcript demonstrating proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree program. In some cases, a combination of partial post-secondary education and relevant work experience will be accepted. Certain graduate certificate programs require past studies from a related area of study.
